The future of the Liverpool soccer team

It is simply incredible that a great soccer team like Liverpool football club has not won the English Premier League for about nineteen years now. On the one hand, it is a tribute to the quality of the English Game. On the other hand, it could also be considered a shortcoming on the part of Liverpool. The Mersey side team has not been able to out-compete other great teams like Manchester United, (their closest rivals) Arsenal and Chelsea.

To be sure, Liverpool is English's most successful team. They can boast of 18 premier league trophies, 5 champions league trophies and a number of other smaller trophies - F.A. Cups, UEFA Cups and Carling cups.

Liverpool is also one of the best supported clubs in the world. When they play home matches at airfield, the voices of fans resound as they sing the Liverpool anthem 'You Will Never Walk Alone'. Yes, Liverpool has a good number of fans who are ready to die for the club!

So, why then has Liverpool stopped being a dominant force in English soccer? Why are they getting out done by Man. United and Chelsea in recent years? Is the problem in the boardroom or is it on the field of play? In simple terms, what is the future of Liverpool football club?

All considered, the future for Liverpool is bright. The appointment of Rafael Benitez in 2003 ushered in a new era in Liverpool's history. The veteran Spaniard has not disappointed the club. So far, he has played two Champions League finals and won the first one back in 2003. Under Rafa Benitez, Liverpool has also won a Carling Cup and the F. A. Cup. It is only the holy grail of the premier that continues to prove elusive.

Again, the take over of the club by the American duo of Joe Hicks and Tom Gillet has not been the disaster some people anticipated. Funds have been made available to Rafa Benitez. The result has been some very sensible business on the transfer market.

With players like Dirk Kuyt, Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun, Fabio Aurelio, Steven Gerrard and Ryan Babel, Liverpool has a solid dimension. There are enough players for the team to compete on all fronts Premiership, Champions League and F.A. Cup.

Objectively, the future is bright for Liverpool. This team has beaten Man. United twice this year, (2008/2009) took Real Madrid to the cleaners and occupies the number 2 spot on the premier league standings. All considered the future of Liverpool football club will soon begin to yield trophies.
