If you love to write, it is possible for you to earn steady income as a writer from home. While not every person is capable of writing well enough to make a living at it, there are people who do make a steady income in the privacy of their home by doing what they love to do - writing. If you are wondering how to earn a steady income by writing, here are some great tips for you.
1. Be consistent - If you are writer one of the most challenging things to do is to keep your writing consistent. Quality matters. If you are capable of putting out high quality writing on a regular basis it is possible to earn steady writing income. If you find that your quality varies from day to day from very high to not so high you may find yourself challenged.
2. Be Diverse - If you tend to be a writer who only writes well about one topic chances are you are going to have a difficult time earning steady writing income. The better your research skills, the more likely you are to be able to generate high quality articles and blog posts that can help you earn a steady writing income. Do not limit yourself if it is at all possible. Those who have a specialized field of writing (such as medical, legal, etc.), may find that it is more difficult to find enough work to keep a steady writing income.
3. Be Patient - You are most likely not going to replace your income overnight. However, if you set out goals that are attainable, there is no reason you cannot succeed. Set your goals in small, easy to obtain steps. For instance: You might want to start earning enough to work only part time at another job. From there you can set a higher goal of completely replacing your income from another job with a steady writing income.
4. Market yourself - Perhaps one of the biggest downfalls for those who are trying to earn a steady writing income is the lack of marketing themselves. If you have clients who are satisfied with your work, ask them to allow you to use them as a reference, referral or to highlight your work in an on-line portfolio. Not every person you write for will allow this. Make sure you verify with them. Join sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, and other social networking sites where you can share your portfolio. If you do not have your own blog, create one. If you have the skills, consider a website also. Make sure that you get the word out to friends, family, co-workers and others who may be able to spread the word.
5. Learn SEO - The big buzz-word today is Search Engine Optimization. This is a must for every writer. You do not need to spend thousands of dollars to learn SEO, you can learn it on your own by using hundreds of free tools that are available on-line.
