Drugs and drug addiction

The road to recovery for the drug addict begins with the long hard road of discovery. Often when dealing with drug addiction, whether your own or that of a loved one, denial paves the way long before awareness takes place. Unfortunately, drug use today comes in more ways than the stereotypical, back alley with a battered heroin attic helping someone score; many of the drugs being abused come via a written prescription from your family practitioner. Whether chronic pain or a deep state of depression begins the journey with drug use, many individuals find themselves craving the euphoria created by their prescribed band-aid. Drug use will rarely bring the intended state of normalcy one seeks to live a happy productive life. Realizing the root cause for the addiction will begin the journey to discovery; life that has been tucked away from light for far too long is crying out to be released, to be set free. True love, whether for your self or that of a loved one, never gives up; love never fails.

Before someone comes to the place that they can recognize their need for drug rehabilitation, there is usually a downward spiral involved with their personal life, responsibilities and priorities. In making this statement, let it be clear that everyone taking drugs for pain or depression are not considered to have a drug addiction. The fine line drawn between necessity of medication for its prescribed purpose, and using drugs because the addiction will not allow you to let go, is very distinct. It seems less than a fine line, and more like a wide road to those who find themselves in the life of the person dealing with drug addiction. In fact it seems the user is the last to identify his own character changes taking place, as if a pair of blinders have been placed over their ability to see themselves. Many that battle with drug addiction feel as though their loved ones are over reacting to their choice of entertainment; in fact, they may feel a sense of judgment from the people that care the most. When drugs take over a person's ability to hold a job or consider the needs of others, the idea that there is a problem rarely enters their thought processes. It's as though a conspiracy has taken place to destroy their means of peace and invade their right to privacy. The people who love a drug addict need to face the facts of this unrelenting disease; they need to educate themselves and those in contact with them. It's never personal when a drug addict lashes out.
