Essays: Observing people

"If you ever find the time to sit and watch nature at its best, come and put observing people to the test!" This is my slogan for what I am going to write about. Observing people can be hours of fun if you find creative ways to surrender your time! So the next time you go for a afternoon walk , web surfing, traveling or just a simple stroll around the neighborhood mall; watch and witness the behavioral patterns of people.

I have always taken excitement in seeing what other people are up to. From the unicyclist wandering down broken sidewalks to the polo wearing golfer; have you ever wondered why people do what they do? I sure do. Travel the world and see how different they all can be. Let's mentally observe or visually observe (http://www.youtube.com) the geisha's in Japan, snake charmers in Indian, witch doctors in Africa and ponder on the idea that we all are forged from one clay. If you can search within yourself and become aware of what you have in common with people as opposed to what you find in difference, doors often open then. Let history be your leading example.

You see, birds of the air , the fox in its den or the deer in the fields could care less if they are being watched, unless they are being hunted of course (ouch!). But people on the other hand; they want to be watched for some reason. Take for example the lonely bar singing cowboy, the man walking on the moon or the lawyer in his new Lexus. Why do we all want to be noticed. What is it about yourself that you want to be noticed? Is it your chemically treated hair, your acrylic nails, your hat with feathers, your tattoos, your new sport coat, or your two carat diamond ring? Go ahead be honest! And then rationalize how this is different from the most foreign of things that others do. Is that not what makes us unique?

Our uniqueness is what makes us proud to be who we are, but maybe we should take another approach when observing human life. I triple dog dare you to observe how much we are alike. Instead of rolling eyes at the one who offends our ego, go shake his/her hand, because when you do this you are bringing us together. Don't be afraid to discipline yourself as a seasoned worldly traveler. You never know how much you can learn about yourself from observing. So put your ego aside and let the open mind be your bride. May the many faces of people increase your desire to explore your inner child.
