Plus size clothing is made for bigger people. If you display it on a person who is smaller in size it is not showing how the garment will actually fit on a larger person. It could also be claimed to be false advertisement. Most clothing items do look better on a smaller person. Using someone who is not plus size to model clothing for larger people can mislead people into buying something that will not flatter a plus size figure.
For instance, pleats on a thin bodied individual may look very nice. But when you add pleats to someone who has a larger stomach area, it will just enhance their size, making the person appear larger than they are. The last thing that plus size people need is to appear larger because the clothing has added bulk to them.
Everything is larger on plus size clothing. A women who would normally wear a single digit size in clothing doesn't need a larger arm opening to accommodate thicker arms, where as a plus size woman does. Maybe the thin model has tiny arms and the shirt appears to have very large arm openings when in fact they are suppose to be form fitting to the arm. This will not be shown correctly because of the size of the model that was used to showcase the garment.
It is the same as carrying a purse. A smaller woman can get away with carrying a smaller handbag, but a larger woman should try to find something larger in size to carry. This will be more proportionate to her body and will not appear to be out of place. A smaller handbag can actually make a larger person appear bigger than they actually are. Who wants that?
It is highly unfair to plus sized individuals when companies choose regular models to display their attire. If they do not want to hire plus sized models then they shouldn't model the clothing at all. It can prove to be disastrous to someone who is looking for a specific fit or style. It misrepresents how an item will fit a full figured body.
There are plenty of modeling opportunities available to regular sized individuals. Sometimes it can be difficult for plus sized models to find great modeling opportunities. If you are a regular sized model please stick to your own sized clothing while you do your job. Otherwise start eating double cheeseburgers from McDonald's and grow into the clothes you wish to model so you can display them correctly. Plus sized clothing should be modeled by plus sized models or not at all.
