How to baby proof your house? Baby proofing your house is a very important aspect of preparing your home for children. It is important to cover your electrical sockets and put away any valuable or sentimental items that could get damaged. You can never be too safe when you have a small child in your home. There is also a breaking point. Many people go a little overboard with baby proofing their homes.
As society and technology has changed over the years, many new parents have become more and more reliant on items that baby proof their homes. The best baby proofing tool for any parent is your eyes and ears. Due to all the luxuries of cabinet latches, refrigerator latches and toilet seat latches, modern day parents have gotten lazy. Sure it's OK to let little Susie play in the kitchen while I watch TV, she can't get into anything because all the cabinets are locked!
It is better to house proof your child, than to be forced to child proof your house. How inconvenient is it to have to undo all the latches on your cabinets while you are trying to cook dinner? Why not teach your child it is not OK to open the cabinets and enforce the rules? As for fathers, ever woken up in the middle of the night to use the restroom? Those toilet seat lids don't last very long when you yank the toilet lid up while you are half asleep. Teach your children not to play in the toilet or shut the bathroom door. This will also save you money. Toilet latches can get expensive when you are replacing them every other day!
Before baby proofing items were invented parents actually had to supervise their children while in their homes. They were forced to teach their children to stay out of the cabinets and toilets. Parenting is not supposed to be easy. Teaching your children what they can and cannot touch is a good learning experience. If you start to teach them early it makes it easier as they get older.
Keep in mind there are certain things that are a must such as electrical plugs. A small child could stick their fingers in a socket faster than you could tell them no. As for cabinets and such you can tell them no before they have time to get the cap off the bleach. You can save a lot of money by teaching your children right from wrong. This also benefits you in the future as well. If they know what's right and what's wrong just from small things in your home it may keep them out of trouble when they are older.
