It happens. In fact, I have seen it happen time and time again. You finally find something decent to watch on TV and then all of a sudden, it gets cancelled. You are mortified to find out the show is cancelled before the next season and often times, without much explanation. It seems so stressful, but there are things fans can try to do to keep their shows on the air.
The first thing fans must do is watch the show religiously. Maybe you were already doing that or maybe you were one who hit and missed from time to time. The point is, now is the time that you have to watch the show as much as possible. next thing is, you need to try to get as many friends, family members, and co-workers to watch the show as possible. Have people come over to the house and watch the show with you. Ask friends if they have seen old episodes and give them highlights. I have noticed in my workplace there were some individuals who did not watch Grey's Anatomy at all last year. Guess what? This year they follow every episode, you want to know why? The reason is if you don't know what is happening each week on the show then you will have nothing to talk about with the other 13 people in the office. Every Friday the office discusses Grey's Anatomy. Everyone likes to be a part of the conversation, so everyone has been keeping up with the show.
The second thing you can do is find others who like the show. This is usually done online, but can be done at work, school, church, or any other place where your associates gather. The best way is to find message boards and chat rooms online to discuss issues, characters, and episodes of the show. Make sure to keep up with the chats and messages as well. Print off as many of these as you can in case you would need to mail them to the station.
Now, the first and second things are done so the third and fourth things can fall into place. If you find the show is going to be cancelled or is being considered for cancellations, petition the action with as many signatures as possible. Write a sensible letter stating why the show should stay on and get back up from other fans you have met or chatted with online. Have other fans write as many letters or emails as possible as well.
Finally, if the above does not give you the explanation you are looking for, gather other fans and protest. Go to the network's home office and protest for the cause. Send fan mail, make posters, do whatever it takes (that is legal) to get your voice heard.
