Short stories: Angels

The evening was cool. The fire in the pit was keeping Lillian and i warm . It was my granddaughter Lilly and I second camping trip .Hopefully, the first one she will retain in her precious. Iam always about the moment and making a memory. Lilly is was almost four. So , i felt she would handle the trip with great excitement.

However, she seemed to be going through a stage where she had many fears. Fears of the dark and new surroundings. All of which are totally normal for a child her age. Lilly started wearing down my patients. Every time something scared her or it wasn't familiar to her mind.the whining would start. She would reveal in her tiny little voice ," Nana, I want to go home" I would try to wrap her tighter in horse blanket she carried everywhere. Trying to make her feel safe. The whining continued. I had to think fast before the whining won over my patients.

deciding it was probably, time for her to go to sleep. As we had pplayed all day long. Stomping through the woods. Collecting sticks for the fire. Looking at pretty flowers, and checking out all the rocks.Inew i wanted her to love the wood; the only thing that came to mine was to teach her to see the angels watching over her.

Since Lilly was baby ,I talked to her about angels. Told her where these angels came from and how God created them to be protectors. Lilly would always say i want to see a angel." great i would think how are you going to show her an angel to calm her down. I would tell tell her the angels were like bright lights that fluttered around while it was dark out and took naps during the day.Nana ,they take naps like me asked Lilly.?" Yes, Lilly the take naps . Do they they sleep in the camper? In could feel her fear sneaking up about sleeping in the camper.

This Nana was one step ahead. I took her her up to the camper. The whining had begun. Nana i don't want to sleep in the camper. I said no its okay we are going to look for angels. I had in the drawer of a the camper. A wind up flash light that did not need batteries. It was manual as you turned the crank it created light. Lilly and i laid down in the bed i had made in the camper. I told her "ssh" listen maybe we will will hear them angels sing. I pointed the light toward the ceiling and turned the crank ,the handle created a whining noise. With my wrist i twirled around , i said look ,Lilly see the angels dancing on the ceiling ,Little shimmers of light flickering creating shadows that calmed her down and wiped away her fears. with a little faith of a child ,and winding of crank creating songs in her ears. She Said, " listen Nana the angels are singing to me " i sang a few course of kumbyya my Lord my little angel drifted off to sleep. The next morning she woke rested and excited to tell everyone at camp how we watched the angels dance and sing.
