Writing an article takes a great deal of thought and preparation. To sit down at the computer with no idea on a subject can be a daunting task for some while others relish the thought of learning about something new. An article is whatever we choose to make it. It depends on the subject matter as to how we go about writing it.
There are some guidelines that will tell you what an article is though. Here are some of the guidelines that need to be followed in order for your article to be an article:
Thought Provoking
The subject that you are writing about should be strong. It must have some basis in what others are thinking. It should be interesting enough to gain your readers attention. It should also hold their interest and get them thinking. If the "article" doesn't have the ability to make the reader think, it isn't an article at all.
Will Make a Difference
Taking an old subject and finding new things to write about it can be very difficult. It can be done though. Always have fresh ideas to give your readers. Simply repeating what someone else said isn't good enough. You want others to see things in a different light. New innovations is what makes the world go 'round. It is also what makes an otherwise ho-hum article sparkle. Use your imagination when writing and you will find yourself with a true article.
Articles should make a difference in how others see things. It should have the ability to capture the hearts and minds of those reading it. It doesn't matter what the subject is, if you make it interesting and different enough, people will read it and love it. That is what you want from an article. If you don't have it, you can't call it an article.
Well Written
An article is written in several different ways. Each person has a different perspective on any given subject. Writing articles to websites such as Helium allow many different perspectives on the same subject. Writing it well is the most important aspect of an article. Good spelling, grammar and structure are very important to article writing. Articles should not appear as a blog does. Writing a blog can also be about any subject matter in the world. It doesn't have to be well structured though. Articles must be well structured and easy to read for the audience. Take the time to do it right the first time and you will see what an article truly is.
Articles are taken more seriously than the blog counterpart. They should appear professional at all times. It is important to remember that when someone reads an article, they are taking it for truth and assume that it is factual. It is important that all articles are based in fact. When you blog, you don't have to be quite as careful. Article writing is different. People know that when they research and use blogs that the information may be far less than the truth. They want to know that what they are reading in an article can be trusted. That is what an article is.
