Ten things everyone should try

It is becoming more common for people to create bucket lists for themselves, filled with difficult and ambitious tasks. This list of ten things that everyone should try includes goals that should be more attainable for the average person. See if you feel any differently as you check these items off the list, one by one.

Talk to Strangers

While you are waiting in line, standing by a stoplight, or at a store, talk to the people around you. Say "hello" to someone who looks interesting and see if you can engage them in a conversation. Our lives are full of missed opportunities, especially where relationships are involved. If you begin talking to strangers, you will leave your conversational comfort zone, possibly make a friend, and may feel more happy after you are done.

Volunteer

You may have a life that already feels too busy. Chances are this life also feels empty. Try to clear some time in your schedule and put that time to use somewhere else. Places like literacy centers, boys and girls clubs, churches, and schools are often looking for volunteers. Find something that interests you and sign up for a trial. You will find that you enjoy the time spent helping others and that you often leave with a smile on your face.

Perform

Whether it is on stage or in a bar, with a choir or on your own, performing has definite benefits. You could choose to sing karaoke at a fair, read a book to a first grade classroom, or try out for a play with your local theater group. Performing will fill you with adrenaline, enthusiasm, and the love for applause. After walking off of whatever "stage" you are on, you will want to return. Overcome those fears of stage fright and show them what you've got!

Leave the Country

This item sounds more complicated, but it does not have to be. You can leave the country by driving into Canada or Mexico, booking a flight to Europe or Asia, or immersing yourself in literature focused on one country. You will gain the most appreciation for other cultures if you actually visit the other country, but sometimes leaving the country is not possible. Choose a country you have always wanted to visit, go to the library, and check out the travel books, fictional books, and travelogues about the destination of your choice. You may not get to walk in the country with your feet, but you can with your mind.

Give Spontaneous Gifts

The next time you see something that reminds you of someone, buy it. Give it to them the next time you meet and watch their reaction.
