Not only did Susan Boyle's voice not match her appearance, but her performance brought to mind, the appearance of Paul Potts, a past "Britain's Got Talent" contender. He too, did not look like he was going to have the voice of Pavarotti. After he was such a success, he grew his hair and had his teeth fixed; by doing that, he looked more successful.
Susan Boyle, 48, from West Lothian, stunned the judges on Britain's Got Talent singing 'I Dream A Dream' from Les Miserables, (http://www.susan-boyle.com/).
Susan Boyle doesn't think that there is anything wrong with her appearance and is quite confident. Good for her! What she doesn't understand is to have "star power", there is a certain look that one usually has.It is so much easier to disguise how a woman once looked than it is for a man, for a man cannot be altered with makeup. If Susan Boyle would allow more of a makeover, than having her eyebrows tweezed, her loo wiould match her voice. People are so intrigued and fasicnated by her and we all ask, "why"?
The answer is really quite easy. Although the public needs to be kind, one has to admit that she has a bit of a frumpy look, even though Susan does not see it, as depicted on a famous talk show recently. It is abolutely amazing that the beauty of her voice does not match her appearance, so it is more shock and awe than anything else. They are also intrigued because they are wondering how that will change. It is a sort of curiosity. That's why the public is fascinated.
The audience immediately jumped to a standing ovation and stayed there until the end of the song. (http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWB IZ/Music/04/22/bregman.boyle/) . The public's fascination was probably a combination of her plain looks, the fact that she was unemployed, at one time was a charity worker, and had never even been kissed. Her life was far from exciting and although she sometimes sang at a local pub, her social life didn't consist of anyone from the opposite sex, in a pitiful sort of way. Yes, people did feel sorry for her, but believed that she needed a break and it was her night to be discovered! They may have even have felt a bit sorry for her, that this discovery and a chance to change her life, did not come earlier in her life.
While many say that Simon had already heard her, most do not believe it. It certainly appeared that he was just as surprised as the other judges on England's version of American Idol, which actually preceded the famous show. Its name is "Britain's Got Talent". It is also a fairytale when such a person, who had a dream, just as her song depicts, becomes famous overnight. How wonderful is that? She was a "nobody" who took a giant leap and took a chance. Little did she know that her dream would come to. Sometimes it is a matter of taking the right path, that changes your life.
Susan Boyle has come a long way, in such a short time, that it does seem like a dream. Good for her; it is nice to know that not everyone is judged by the "cover of their book", that they wear upon their face!
