went into the lower parts of the earth, (Ephesians 4:9) as a Spirit, (1 Peter 3:18-20; 4:5-6) to take the keys of death from Satan (Hebrews 2:14-15; Revelation 1:18), and then rose victoriously (1 Peter 3:21-22) so we can also have hope for resurrection (1 Corinthians 15), also understand that our spirits continue to have conscious existence after our bodies die. But those who believe our souls and spirits die inside of our dead bodies, cannot view Peter's epistles as literal events, they think it is more parabolic to explain a person's condition while physically alive.
Jesus went out of his way every Sabbath day to heal people. The religious leaders even said to him, "You have six days to work, you don't heal people on the Sabbath day." In Mark 3:4, he was using the woman who he said had been bound by Satan for those eighteen years as a graphic illustration of what He was proposing to do during the Sabbath day while his own body was resting in the grave. Jesus gave hints, he spoke plainly to his disciples, and even they did not remember when He was in the tomb that He promised them He would rise on the third day. But for those who would insist that Jesus kept the Sabbath day by allowing His Spirit to rest with his body in the tomb, forget what He said about it is well to do good on the Sabbath, to go and get your sheep out of the pit! He is the Good Shepherd, come to seek out the lost. He would not be able to just "sleep" knowing that there was the key of death to take from Satan, spirits in the underworld (hades) to rescue from Death's power. After His resurrection, over 500 people were raised from the lower part of the earth, who were seen by many. These were the ones who He had gone to preach to. He kept the Sabbath by example, showing us that whether it is six days that we work, on the Sabbath day, it is good to heal and help people in trouble. (Working is when you receive pay; helping is when you do your kindness out of charity.)
This has been a discussion on why Jesus could help the lost on the Sabbath day in His Spirit, while His body rested in the Grave. Another lesson will come to show that soul sleep itself is not Biblical.
