Journalists can effectively use Twitter as a means of getting their stories out to the masses and making a name for themselves rather quickly. With print media suffering a decline in this technological era, Twitter is seen as a saving grace for many journalists.

Research that used to be painstakingly exhaustive has now become simplified with the click of a button or two. With its usage estimated at over five million, and growing ridiculously quick, a journalist now has access to many 'tweets' about current events. Tweets, as they are called, are little blogs, and are posted in real time. With so many people tweeting, especially during a major news story, a journalist can scan quickly to find the most recent updates and tweets from users in order to compile data and gather research.
