As I write this, my cat is sleeping soundly next to me. My two dogs are outside sleeping in the sunshine. It is wonderful. Having three animals under the age of 1 is probably very similar to having three human children. They all demand attention, misbehave, and love me very much. Don't get me wrong, I love all three of my animals pretty equally, but shoving my personal experience aside, I believe that cats are the better pet to have. A cat will love you when you need it, and leave you alone when you want to be left alone.
It has been said that petting a cat relieves stress. It feels nice to have a cat's soft fur underneath your fingers after a tough day. A cat will stay still next to you, and not feel like it needs to play with you when you want to relax. A cat can sense when you are stressed and is there for you when you need it the most.
Sure a cat uses the litter box and you have to clean it. But with a cat, you don't have to worry about it peeing on your carpet (so long as you keep its box clean). A cat only uses the restroom in the litter box and you do not have to carry around a pooper scooper to clean up after it if it accidentally poops in the neighbor's yard! When you go to clean up after a cat, you simply dump the mess in the bag and put it out in the garbage. There is no hunting for and stepping in hidden surprises when you are cleaning. A dog thinks of the outdoors as one giant toilet.
You have to love a cat's attitude. All cats are convinced that they rule the universe, and you are there to serve them. Since they have this royal attitude, they are perfectly content to live an independent lifestyle. If attention suits them, then they will give it. If they want to hide under the bed, that is what they do. Cats do not need round the clock attention, making them the perfect pet for a person that is on the go. Try leaving a dog at home for the whole day. You will probably come home to your furniture torn to pieces and accidents all over the floor. A cat would never lower itself to such behavior.
A cat is the way to go for anyone looking for a companion. They will not make much of a mess, and as long as you feed and water it and give it a place to sleep, it will reward you with the chance to pet its royal fur. I can speak firsthand about how a cat has made my life better. Speaking of my cat, her royal highness is awake and awaiting her dinner.
