Does the Atkins Diet really work?

I have always been a carnivore. Put me in a chair in front of a table filled with meat, vegetables and sweets, and I will eat the meat first everytime. Dessert has never held a real appeal for me. I'd rather have another piece of chicken.

So, when I decided to go on a diet, I thought that Atkins was taylor-made for me. After about two weeks, I had gained 4 pounds. I think that I followed the diet correctly. Some of my friends who had great success on Atkins encouraged me to press on. Another week and more weight gain was my reward.

I can only surmise that Atkins only works if it represents a significant departure from your regular dietary routine. If you can eliminate sufficient amounts of bread, sweets, and other carb sources, it seems to work. If you can't, it's not the diet for you.
