Hobbies are always a good thing until they become an obsession. I myself love the thought of going and playing trading card games with my younger brother or flipping on the Play Station 2 to play a game for a while. I also understand the line that must be kept from letting my hobbies control my life.
Hobbies are a great way to loosen up and unwind at the end of the day. Every one is different and enjoys different hobbies or past times. Some like to catch up on sports. Some like to put model cars together like my step dad, and some like myself love the thought of laying out a duel pad to play a game of Yu-Gi-Oh! with some one else. Stress is a thing of life and must be dealt with almost daily for some people. If it is not, then it can bottle up and come out in ways you don't intend or didn't want. Instead of taking a big sigh as you get home and you flip on the game console you might end up blowing up in someone's face.
That's why after a hard day of work I can't think of any thing better to do then to go home and play some games on the WII or Play Station. I first fell in love with video games when I got a Nintendo Entertainment System for Christmas one year. I still have that very system in a box safe from harm in my closet. After a few years I upgraded to a Play Station 1, and later on got my N64. At the moment, my bother and I have a WII, PS2, and Nintendo DS Lite which we share. I myself prefer racing games like Grand Turismo and Need for Speed titles. While my brother tends to play fighting style games more, I think it helps him get the anger out from his stressful days at school.
Another Hobby I really enjoy, and my brother shares this one too, is collecting trading cards. I have a fair collection of Yu-Gi-Oh! and a large collection of Dragon Ball Z CCG. I have a few but not as many as I used to of Pokemon. There is nothing like opening a new pack of cards or booster set to see what you got and what you can add to your deck. Each pack is always different and to see a holofoil card in the pack is always a treat. Even if it may not be a good card at the time it might still be good to look at just because of the card's art work or appearance. It is always a good idea to keep the weaker cards because you never know when they might be useful in a deck later combined with other cards. Not to mention that when you play the game with a friend you usually end up having fun and you and your friend share a good time.
Whether it is playing cards, games, or putting a model together, hobbies are a good way to get stress out and have a little fun in the dull of life. In most cases, hobbies can be sustained cheaply with out much money, and are well worth the cost in my opinion. If you do not have a hobby I suggest you try one out soon. I don't think you will be at all disappointed in your decision and you might even find new friends or some of you old friends that enjoy that hobby too and share your good times with them. Just remember not to get lost in the world of unreal.
