Poetry: At 2:30 am

"Somebody Forgot to Turn Off the TV"

As I roll over, there's a fish on my wall
In a regal, embattled pose
I wonder briefly, "Where am I?"
But decide I'm still home, I suppose

A bright light flickers a few feet away,
And it's also emitting a sound
The voices of Conan and Billy Mayes
Destroy slumber for miles around

I could grab the remote and turn it all off,
But the waves of my brain are too hazy
As I curse both the noise and visions so bright...
The truth is that I'm just too lazy

I roll over again and try once more
To sleep through this lightning and thunder
Knowing in morning my eyes will be red
And honestly, sir, it's no wonder.
