Living with Multiple Sclerosis

I was diagnosed with relapsing remitting MS in 1999 when I was 24 after having had it according to the doctors for about 9 years. I had had some numbness and loss of feeling in the preceding years and I had trouble walking and loss of balance from time to time. Actually it was a relief to know it was MS, at least I could know my enemy and read up on how to live with it.

I'm 40 now and I have 2 children. After having my son 4 years ago I had no problems and a great pregnancy but after my daughter 2 years ago I had numerous relapses after her birth and I have now been on Beta Interferon since September 2006 (had to fight the NHS to get it for 2 years). Relapses for me mean chronic fatigue, crap balance, numbness everywhere, and urgent bowel activity.

I know I am very lucky to be able to live a relatively "normal" life, I walk fine and the only help I need is a bar in the shoer that I hang on to when my balance is not good.
