"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit th earth."- Matthew 5:5
The Book of Ants states that:
"All who can work, will; all who can breed, will; all who can gather, will; all who can serve, will".
A simple Constitution had made Ants the envy of all species, including their unquestioned King, Mantis. The great Mantis came from his dreaded shocks, high, above the willows. His long, green legs made him look twelve feet taller than any of the others. Those, inferior to him, cowered, in awe from this monstrous, green allegory. The shadow of his body, like a jackknife, was even more demeaning to their smallness. How could he stay on that limb in such a frantic, windy, world? It was the Mantis, who spread the prophecy that the low ones were destined to rule the world. He spoke of this often.
"Those, of the industrious work, and organization, will rule, when the war-makers end this world. The tall ones will not survive their own holocaust. Their homes are weak and tall. They build monuments to themselves, always thinking that to build 'up' is right. It is the colossal folly of their thinking. These Generals of the underworld will be the last cast of earth."
King Mantis was right, of course. His numbers, and his power, were dwindling. Humans had captured his kind to feed their gardens; his had become a commercial prospect to feed the human belly. It was not a bad prospect, until humans used the kill water to feed their food. Other species had long thought that humans were a self-destructive lot, and would not survive long. They thought far too much about changing things that were natural. The underworld creatures feared the great floods. It was the humans, who created the great floods by trying to stop the small ones! Logic didn't seem to matter; they were a quizzical species. And so it was, that the Mantis abdicated his throne, in favor of those who could best serve what was left of the world after the humans great destruction.
Soran, great General of the Black Ant, always admired the Mantis' fierceness. They'd seen him in battle. When it looked as if his lanky legs would give, his fury to survive would overcome any obstacle. He may loose a leg for now, but that would soon be regained. Except for the turret head, his resurrection was assured. The steel eyes of a King, and the stature of the Statue, hard and cold, there were none who wouldn't follow him, if only to witness this giant, green, fortress in battle! Mantis eyed the small ones hard, with love and
