Trying to stay healthy is a difficult task for many of us. Many mothers think that it is a difficult task to get themselves and their families in shape. We need to have a complete lifestyle change if we want to get and stay healthy. We need to start the healthy lifestyle by changing our diet and our exercise. There is no better way of getting into your new healthy lifestyle than enlisting the entire family. We all need moral support when we are exercising. When we have others doing the same activity we are trying to do, we can all encourage each other to keep going.
When you go grocery shopping, only buy healthy food. Buy snacks that are healthy like vegetables and fruits rather than chips and doughnuts. Show your children and spouse that eating healthy is something not only that you believe in, but that you do. Make sure that just because you're eating healthy, you're not eating food with little flavor or variety. Get rid of all the unhealthy snacks, unhealthy meals, etc. Restock your cupboards and refrigerator with healthy foods. Make sure that when you're out of the home and eating you make healthy choices. Check the internet for healthy food choices at your favorite restaurant before you go to make sure you're not eating something that doesn't fit into your new healthy lifestyle.
Think of food as fuel and not as something that is your entertainment. Many times we focus fun events around food. We meet our friends for lunch, dinner, etc. We have almost all fun events focused around food. Make the other things more exciting than the food and you'll be better off. How about meeting your friends and family for a volleyball game rather than meeting for lunch. You can still eat, but the event doesn't have to be focusing on the food. The food can be secondary to the fun activity.
When you do things as a family, make it something that counts towards your healthy lifestyle, such as biking, swimming, hiking, etc. Being healthy doesn't have to be boring. Watching movies and doing sedentary things can be reserved for once a month. When the family does watch movies or something where they are not doing much of anything, the activity needs to be accompanied with some healthy snacks rather than unhealthy ones. If your children really like video games, get a Wii game console and the entire family can do a little bit of exercise rather than none while still playing video games.
If you get your family into a routine of exercise and healthy eating, you'll be fit and healthy quicker than you could ever imagine. Make your new lifestyle something that is very routine, very fun, and very easy. A few adjustments to your old lifestyle and you're on your way to a new and more exciting life.
