If you are what you eat, then maybe everyone should become a vegetarian! Seriously, changing from a meat-based diet and going vegetarian is a wonderful way to make positive changes in your diet. Not everyone understands why anyone would become a vegetarian, therefore your friends and family may not understand your choice. Don't worry because there are so many reasons to go meatless that you may be able to help them understand reasons why they should go meatless too. To start off, here are five excellent reasons to go from meat-eater to meatless-eater.
Consider your budget. The cost of meat has skyrocketed. With costs rising and paychecks becoming less secure, now is the time to start eliminating meat from your diet. With a little creativity, meals can be created that will be so fabulous, your family won't even notice the lack of meat, but they may notice an improvement in their health.
Speaking of health, are you aware that many celebrities have opted for a vegetarian diet for their health? Reasons cited for the change will, occasionally include the concern for animal welfare. More often, the change is made because, while traveling, they have ended up sick because of undercooked meat. Eliminating meat eliminated the problem. Many people have had the same problem. Children have become sick and died because of poorly cooked meat. Going meatless automatically eliminates this concern.
A diet high in meat can result in the individual suffering from cancer, heart disease, and hypertension. Meats can cause a build up of cholesterol in your arteries. It is difficult for the digestive system to break down. The American Heart Association says that saturated fats is the leading cause of high blood cholesterol. The Harvard School of Public Health reminds us that different types of meat are often accompanied by high levels of saturated fats. They also point out that vegetable proteins, such as nuts, beans, and whole grains lack large amounts of saturated fats but offer healthy fiber, vitamins and minerals. You will feel immediate benefits as the new roughage your body intakes helps you to eliminate waste that builds up with a diet that is high in meat.
The Center for Disease Control suggests a another great reason for going meatless, weight loss. They point out that the calorie count in fruits and vegetables is lower than those in meat proteins. Skipping the meat allows you to eat more, fill up with healthy choices and, ultimately, watch the numbers on the scale go steadily down.
Going meatless than increase the length of your years on Earth. National Geographic did a study on longevity. Studying vegetarians from Okinawa, Sardinia, and Loma Linda, California, they found that these individuals living a meatless existence were more likely to live to be one-hundred. At the same time, many diseases common to meat-eaters were not as likely to be present. The life-span is great enough to validate several studies over the past several years.
Animal-rights groups give another reason for going vegetarian, guilt-free eating. Studying the meat industry and learning how animals are processed could make a hearty meat-eater reconsider their practices. Check out how rendering plants render and decide where you want your food supply to come from.
Wealth, health, weight-loss, longevity and lack of guilt, all good reasons on their own. Put them together and you'll have five great reasons to drop meat from your diet and enjoy the vegetarian lifestyle.
