Poetry: Black hole

by S.C. Kleinhans

Created on: May 17, 2009

A slender body.

Seemingly quite ordinary.

Ravaged by time.

The bitter enemy of mankind.

Father Time

steals the memories of some.

Others lose normal functions

like balance, talking or walking.

This poor unfortunate lost

the ability to see and hear.

Others couldn't fathom

her horrible loss.

Unless they too suffered the pain

of having and enjoying

those senses

and then one day

they're stripped away.

Like dirty sheets off

a hospital bed.

Some cruel outsiders

thought she was bluffing.

Merely trying to draw attention

to herself.

She was too busy.

Living in her bright, colorful past.

A world with dancing rainbows

and brilliant light reflecting off

everything in sight.

A symphony of music.

A cacophony of sound.

Then reality would bite back.

Those sweet memories

would be absorbed.

They'd disappear

into the parched territory

of her mind and soul.

An endless black hole.
