A slender body.
Seemingly quite ordinary.
Ravaged by time.
The bitter enemy of mankind.
Father Time
steals the memories of some.
Others lose normal functions
like balance, talking or walking.
This poor unfortunate lost
the ability to see and hear.
Others couldn't fathom
her horrible loss.
Unless they too suffered the pain
of having and enjoying
those senses
and then one day
they're stripped away.
Like dirty sheets off
a hospital bed.
Some cruel outsiders
thought she was bluffing.
Merely trying to draw attention
to herself.
She was too busy.
Living in her bright, colorful past.
A world with dancing rainbows
and brilliant light reflecting off
everything in sight.
A symphony of music.
A cacophony of sound.
Then reality would bite back.
Those sweet memories
would be absorbed.
They'd disappear
into the parched territory
of her mind and soul.
An endless black hole.
