Bridget Jones, a contemporary woman who lacks the ability to hitch a guy. This is expressed through her diary which is very much kept up to date. And is also shown to be the narrative voice in this film adding humour and a feminist approach to her every-day life. In many occasions in the film humour is expressed via the voice over which acts almost like a football commentator in the respect that it comments on what the viewers are seeing on the big screen.
Bridget Jones is a modern, stereotypical English woman who too is a little worried about her weight (proper English!) her alcohol intake expressed in the moment she falls out of the taxi. A women in her late twenties/early thirties who very much enjoys day-to-day routine even if it includes commenting on sexual references made by co-workers and even the boss. Who also enjoys times out with her friends spreading the local gossip and spending some of her time being naughty with the boss
This woman is an influence to all women who feel that there is nothing going on with their lives- especially in terms of relationships and shags-on-the-sides. As it expresses to modern day women that it doesn't matter how much the parents are nagging us to find the perfect man it's up to us to find it and possibly even let it comes to us. Therefore, I feel that Bridget Jones is definitely a character that a woman can relate to and this in a sense is why I feel that it's such a popular film.
This is a film that shows British actors at their best- Hugh Grant and Colin Firth give an outstanding and a performance that will be remembered for a very long time. As they have been shown to give an amazing performance together in not just this film but in many others such as 'love actually' and obviously 'Bridget Jones' edge of reason'.
The soundtrack of this film works very well. I felt that in the fighting scene Geri Halliwell's 'it's raining Men' was a perfect reflection to the scene. Simply because throughout the whole film not one person had bothered to go for Bridget however, now that there are two of them she feels irresistible to men and therefore 'it's Raining Men' is a perfect reflection to how she is feeling.
I feel that the general story line is a very catchy one. She goes off to seek a man; in the meanwhile her parents are going through separation in this time she finds a man who actually is her boss who cheats on her. She then goes for Mr Darsey Who is very much so a Darsey figure (played by Colin Firth) he works in politics and is very respectful towards women.
There aren't a lot of special effects used none that really stick out anyway. However I do like the use of straight-cut transactions used and I feel that if any other transaction were to be used in the film then it may ruin it a bit. Maybe just a bit.
No problems with this film- however, I must say I don't think it's suitable for 15 year olds simply because of the amount of swearing in it...
But altogether a great film worth the buy!
