At 2:30 A.M.
It's almost time;
My pains are close.
I'm ready now-
And here he comes!
(Twenty-something years later)
I've waited here
For several hours;
Watching and waiting
And smelling those flowers.
My son is in surgery
And I'm here alone -
Several people have come,
But now all are gone.
The doctor just came -
Everything is all right;
He suggested that I rest;
I said that I might.
But seeing my son
Is important right now-
After that, I may sleep;
But I don't see just how.
The nights have been long,
And the days, sometimes, too.
But my son has been strong;
I'm glad he has you!
