Adolescence - everyone goes through it. It is an awkward time marked by notable changes in appearance and thought processes. During this period many begin to feel self-conscious about their physical changes and perhaps feel pressured into doing many "adult" things that they feel they should be participating in. This includes the typical age-acceptable activities such as learning to drive and getting a summer job, plus other peer-pressured activities such as smoking, sex, drinking alcohol, and experimenting with drugs. Unfortunately, many angst-ridden adolescents engage in activities of the latter variety. Being that the most common causes of death in adolescents are accidents, homicides, and suicides, it is of the utmost importance that teens receive help from adequate drug treatment programs. Adolescents struggling with substance addictions must be properly guided, not forced, onto the path toward recovery. Once one is able to admit he/she has a problem, then proper rehabilitation can take place.
However, drug treatment programs for teens are not as readily available as they should be. Considering that millions of teens suffer from substance abuse problems and only one in ten receive the professional help that drug treatment programs offer, it is important that you consider appropriate therapeutic options that will most benefit your adolescent child. With that said, we will peruse through a few of the finest drug treatment programs available to teens today.
Traditional Drug Treatment Programs
Certain needs must be met in order to stop one's dependence on an addictive substance. These needs are: emotional health, physical health, social health, spiritual health, family health, and educational services. At exceptional programs all these needs should be assessed by licensed clinical therapists to give one the knowledge and treatment necessary to cope with the addiction. Furthermore, decent drug treatment programs should incorporate several approaches to better benefit the unique needs of adolescents such as: individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, animal-assisted therapy, expressive arts therapies, art therapy, drama therapy, music therapy, dance/movement therapy, and poetry therapy. This is because it is important to keep in mind the complexities of adolescent growth when dealing with the youth in order to find drug treatment programs that cover a multitude of areas specific to the general and the individual.
