The internet is something that most people use in today's society. The advantages of using the internet are as diverse as the people that use it. There was a time that the internet was available to the public as a whole. The internet was created for one sole purpose. The Department of Defense of the United States developed the internet so that scientists could more easily share their research and findings with each other. They later figured out what great advantages this "internet thing" had if used by the general public. As you can see, these people were brilliant in their thinking.

The internet has come a long way since those days. We are able to do just about everything from the comfort of the computer chair. There are so many advantages to being online and using the internet that they cannot all be described properly in this format. We take these privileges for granted most often. Let's touch on some of the basic advantages of the Internet:

1. Communication- This is the number one advantage to the internet for almost everyone. Keeping in touch with family and friends. Meeting new friends is easy when you are sitting on the other end of the keyboard. This is all made possible by that little thing we call the internet.

2. Work made easier- Part of the internet is email. It is easier than ever to contact people that may otherwise be difficult to contact. Email is of great advantage when working and contacting people, even those that work in the same building as you do. You no longer have to go directly to that person with each and every little thing. This saves work time and it saves the company money in the long run.

3. Information- This is one of those advantages that you just can't get past when surfing the internet. Book reports for school have never been easier. Finding out about a medical condition is right at your fingertips. Do you want to read a book? You can do that online also. Please don't forget that you can watch videos and movies directly from your computer. We could go on and on about how much information is available on the internet.

4. Shopping- Yes, shopping is made easy online. You don't have to use gas to get to the store. You don't have to use your patience when trying to find a parking spot. You don't have to go out in the cold, the rain or the snow in order to do your shopping. Just get online, turn on your computer, type in a few words and you find what you are looking for. No more endless standing in the line at the Walmart.
