Learning to write online

Created on: May 15, 2009

The internet age has streamlined the access to information and opened communication around the globe. With the advent of the internet, another interesting thread has been revealed: online writing.

Online writing rests on the power of internet search engines and their ability to search out information in a quick and precise manner. The internet puts a wealth of information at everyone's fingertips. This means that there must be people who can supply the information with ease and consistency.

Focus on Keywords

Online writing often focuses on a few keywords that appear throughout the article. These keywords focus into a title to become part of an internet information database. One way to write articles that will maximize viewings is to check the hot searches done on internet search engines. These topics often are current items that might not last a long time but will gain large numbers of views on the short term.

Write in a concise manner

Internet articles are often shorter than ones found magazines or newspapers. The optimal length of an internet article is about 600 words. The minimum is often 400 words and the maximum is around 1400 to 1600 words. These guidelines make the writer stay focused and write in a concise manner. Writing tight and concise will lend to higher views and greater reviews of the articles.

Use an easy to read format

Internet writing makes use of simple and straightforward format that lends itself to easy reading. Formatting is a major issue for the internet because each article needs to be consistent in its appearance to give the site a professional appeal. Here are a few basic tips for article formatting.

* Keep paragraphs down to about 50 to 60 words each.

* Use bullets to list various points

* Use easy to read language

* Create a free flowing writing that is easy to follow

* Boldface or number main points to make them easier to follow

Follow the guidelines of the website

Each internet writing site like magazines and other publications will have their own standard guidelines. The guidelines will cover acceptable content, basic rules for submissions, payment options, rights purchased, and formatting regulations. Be sure to know the guidelines before submitting articles. It pays to know what the site is looking for before you begin submitting volumes of writing.

In some ways writing internet articles is easy and can be profitable but be sure to know the expectations and the opportunities before diving in. Check into the possibilities and start writing.
