These days anyone can start a trend in the fashion world. Today's ideas and concepts of style tend to be a little hard to translate to those that lack the style gene. No, it is not a bad thing to be lacking style... it is a bad thing to lack style and try to convince yourself and others that you are the epitome of style since conception. So here are my top ten tips on how to create your own style of dress without looking like an abomination to goodwill thrift stores everywhere.
Style Tip #1:
Do not try to keep up with the Joneses so to speak. The expensiveness of an item does not guarantee that it is stylish. It just guarantees a dent in your pocket. Look at the quality of what you are purchasing and not the quality of "WHO" you are purchasing.
Style Tip #2
Trendsetters do not bow to the norm unless the norm is what moves them. Do not purchase an item because it is so "UNIQUE" that people will have to love it... purchase the item because it appeals to what you love.
Style Tip #3
When pairing up an outfit remember that everything does NOT have to match. You can wear a pair of blue jeans and a white baby tee with pink pumps, yellow accessories, and pink and yellow belt. Your outfit may be blue and white... but your accessories do not have to blend in so blandly.
Style Tip #4
Boldness is in the eye of the beholder. Mismatching patterns may seem taboo to some but its all in the flair in which you mismatch. Stripes and polka dots may seem to be so obviously WRONG to wear together. If paired together correctly stripes and polka dots can turn you into the best dressed in the room.
Style Tip #5
Last but not least ... EVERYTHING IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY. If you saw a bean pole skinny woman in skinny jeans and you weigh more than your average bean pole, skinny jeans are not for you. Know your limitations, if when you look into the fitting room mirror (try everything on b4 you leave the store)something doesnt feel just right... kindly step away from the item and pick something more flattering. Most fashion NO-NO's are created when people try to wear things that are not flattering to their shape or size.
