Signs you're in the wrong career

It can be disheartening to find out you have chosen the wrong career path. The time and money you have invested in your education may make you feel bound to your first career choice.
It is never too late to switch your vocation. First you have to figure out if you really have made the wrong career choice for yourself.

If you find yourself feeling the Monday morning blues, everyday of the week, you may be in the wrong line of work. You need to ask yourself some tough questions, and be honest with your answers.

1. Am I in this for the money only? If you answer yes to this first question, you will be unhappy on your way to riches. There are times when it is just better to take a cut in pay, and find a job that makes you happy. Most of us will have to work all of our adult lives. That is a long time to spend on a career that just isn't right for you.

2. Am I struggling to meet my deadlines? Consider the possibility that you are in over your head. Sometimes we just aren't up to the level that a certain job demands. Once we leave school, and enter the real world, we often find that we did not learn as much as we needed to do a job the right way. There is no shame in admitting you can't do the work. It is better to recognize it early and switch to a job more suited to your skill level.

3. Am I happy? This is possibly the most important question you will have to answer. Without a certain level of contentment in you career choice, you will go through your life feeling miserable. Unhappy workers produce less satisfactory results.

4. Am I really a nine to five type of person? If you answer no to this question, then you should look for a line of work that allows you more freedom with your time. Take a look at your entrepreneurial side. Being your own boss will give you both business and personal freedom.

There are some lucky people, who pick the perfect career right from the start. The rest of us will likely switch jobs more than once in our lifetime. Don't be afraid to question your job choice. It is braver to leave a career, than it is to stay in a workplace that makes you miserable.

The choice is yours. Don't let others influence your decisions. You are the only one who really knows what is going on inside your career.

Don't wait for years to make your decision. If you recognize early that you have made a wrong choice, act on that knowledge. Save yourself years of unhappiness and just find a new vocation.
