How to make the perfect Mother's Day brunch

Over the years you have given your mother literally dozens of gifts to commemorate her special day. Let's see there was that plaster print of your hand when you were five, the one that had I love you mom, written across the palm. Then there was that pretty apron you made her when you were eight. You can still remember how carefully you colored each of the pages in your favorite coloring book, and then glued them together and added yarn for ties.

There have been the roses, the sweaters, and the books to read. Last year you got her that Gucci purse she had been admiring. Each gift was perfect. You know that because mom told you so, and a Mother would not lie to her child now would she? It's hard to improve upon perfection, but this year you are going to try. So, what can you give mom that will top two, three, even four decades of gifts? Why not give her a Mother's Day brunch?

It really isn't as difficult as it might first seem, and it really is the perfect way to show Mom you love her. Just picture it. Your mom enjoying a lazy morning in bed, sipping coffee and reading the newspaper or her favorite magazine, followed by a long leisurely shower.

Then she comes downstairs into the dining room or perhaps, out to the patio, to find an exquisitely set table, and a wonderful meal waiting for her. You can just see her beaming and happy face!

The only problem is how to turn that picture in your mind into reality. After all, you are not the greatest of cooks, and your decorating skills leave a little to be desired.

No problem, especially if you have siblings. Your older sister is a great cook, Your younger sister is a whiz at flower arranging, and your brother, well your brother can move anything heavy that needs moved. You of course with your knack for shopping can pick up some small sentimental gift for mom and all the decorations.

Mother's Day morning, you all arrive early, take mom her coffee, tell her to relax, and set to work. When everything is ready and looking beautiful, you call mom (and dad too of course), and the whole family sits down to enjoy a nice meal together. There will be good food, a great atmosphere, and much laughing and reminiscing about other Mother's Days. Mom will open her gifts, exclaim how perfect they are, just as she always does, and then you and your siblings will shoo her out to relax while you clean up.

Once everything is taken care of you can all visit, take a drive, or do anything else with Mom that she will enjoy. When it is time to go and you lean down to kiss Mom goodbye she is sure to give you a big hug and whisper that this was the most perfect Mother's day ever.

As you head out the door you'll hear her say, Now next year how about that cruise I have been wanting?

Happy Mother's Day Mom!
