So You Think You Can Be A Freelance Writer
What kind of title is that you ask? One that needs to be carefully considered if you are going to become a freelance writer. You don't want to jump into the fire with both feet planted on hot ground, unless you're sure you can handle it. The freelance world is very competitive, but if a freelance writer approaches it with skill and determination he or she will be able to find many job opportunities.
There are so many ways to tackle freelance writing. First you'll need to be honest about your level of writing expertise. You'll be implementing all those English classes, Writing classes and Spelling classes you took in school. Who the heck is going to hire you, if you don't know how to put sentences together and accurately at that!
You could have an award winning article (it's okay to dream) but unless you know how to pull it together, it's going to sit on the proverbial shelf collecting dust. You will not be hired if your writing skills are lacking. Most job opportunities are offered to freelance writers who know what they are doing.
So you say you can write, but your quality might be lacking in a small way. Again, if your writing skills are sub-par you might want to brush up on your English and Spelling. A potential client might pass you by if your quality of work isn't up to their standards. Hiring an editor to proofread your works and offer suggestions for improvement may be something for you to consider.
It's great when you have the desire and passion for freelance writing, you'll need it when you face rejections. Look at these times as an opportunity to improve upon what you've already done. Keep knocking on those metaphorical electronic doors, remember it's a competitive business.
Okay now you've declared yourself a freelance writer, but you still want to improve upon your writing techniques. Many colleges offer writing courses which will hone those skills. Sometimes libraries host writers groups which get together to share ideas that work for them as writers. Take advantage of what is out there, it will only improve upon what you do know.
If you're still unsure, in the beginning, try bidding on jobs that don't require a lot of research or thousand-plus words. You want to utilize the best you have to offer, so seek out what you can do. The goal is to get that writing job.
Remember there are many job opportunities out there for the freelance writer, but be at the top of your game. If you can say yes to the statement, "So You Think You Can Be A Freelance Writer" with confidence, then get out there! What are you waiting for?
