Super Smash Bros. is a small budget fighting game for the Nintendo 64 console developed by HAL Laboratory in 1999. Before it became the phenomena, it started out as a small project made exclusively for Japan. It featured a roster of characters from other famous Nintendo games such as Mario, Samus Aran, Fox McCloud, Donkey Kong, Kirby etc. and stages from the character related game, like Mushroom Kingdom for Mario and Luigi or Hyrule Castle for Link. After the success of Super Smash Bros. it started being sold in other countries and spawned a few sequels. The first sequel, Super Smash Bros. Melee became the best selling game on the Nintendo Gamecube and the latest game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, is the best selling fighting game of all time.

Super Smash Bros. lets you choose between 8 famous Nintendo characters and partake in fights against one or multiple opponents (up to 30) separated by an occasional bonus level such as "break the targets" where you must break all of the targets in a stage in a designated amount of time (this is trickier that it sounds) or "race to the finish" where you must make your way across the stage, avoiding various obstacles, before time runs out. There are a couple of secret objectives you can complete to unlock four more characters. In Super Smash Bros. the character won't lose, because of taking damage. The only way to defeat your opponent is to knock him out of the stage. The more damage one has taken, the easier he is to knock out. There are also many power-ups like swords, guns, damage removers, or other weapons. In the multi-player you can battle up against three other people in two game modes which don't really differ that much.

The most important thing about Super Smash Bros. is that it is very easy to learn. All of the different moves are preformed by pressing a certain button in combination with a directional button. This makes remembering all of the moves easy and gets rid of tedious button mashing for combos.

There is not much to say about the graphics, because the game is already ten years old and made for the Nintendo 64 console. The characters and backgrounds look like those of any other Nintendo 64 game, but graphics don't matter in a game like SSB. The sound is what you would expect. All of the themes from the games featuring those characters. Super Smash Bros. is an entertaining and harmless game that is definitely a classic.
