Camera
We have lots of high technology cameras in the market now that makes our works perfect and easier. If you are still starting out then maybe you can try cameras worth $1,000 or less. With this camera, you can already have $5,000 or more for each wedding. Enough for you to later make upgrade on your camera.
Portfolio
Advertisements make your work known. It gives you clients. Your advertisement would be your portfolio. Start with taking pictures of your friends and relatives weddings, offer assistance with the official photographer, offer free photography service, and take candid shots. After all the goodness you've offered, you can now pick the perfect pictures that you can place in your attractive portfolio. You just select 5 to 10 pictures. Your client does not need an album for them to choose you as their photographer.
You may also have a website or blog. Just be sure that you place your address or contact information so your services can be easily searched through the internet.
Earnings
Since you are still starting to have a name in wedding photography, then maybe you can charge your first client with your initial investment which is $1,000, your investment in your camera. Thinking that they agreed on your work then probably the cost is just fair enough as starter. The more clients you have, the more your work will be known, the more confidence you will have, then maybe you can think about increasing your price in the market. Remember that if you want to really learn from this kind of profession then it is wiser that you start out on your own. Just think about hiring people if you already have more clients than expected.

This industry will never run out of market. The average budget for a wedding photography is $15,000. This budget varies, most of the time you will really encounter budget below $15,000. On the other hand, there are also budgets more than $15,000. Since you are looking forward to producing creative and quality pictures then you do not have to worry much on low budgets for photography. Let the bride and groom worry about your price.
