The Subtle Rhythms of Our Bodies

Are you having difficulties with asthma, depression or hyperactivity? If you are sick and tired of taking medicine or feel that conventional medicine just isn't working for you, then you may want to give this alternative healing modality a try. Craniosacral therapy works with the subtle rhythms of the body which begin at the cranium and are also connected to the sacrum. This powerful yet subtle therapy slowly unravels the patient's ailments, revealing where she may have energy blocks or a decrease flow in energy, thus, facilitating the healing of the patient's body, mind and spirit.

Craniosacral therapy which was originally discovered by Dr. Sutherland in the early 1900's, works with the idea that the 'Breath of life' which is the proponent for our healing, is transported through the cerebrospinal fluids to all parts of our body. Thus, if we can tap into the subtle palpitations which occur during their transport, we can facilitate our bodies' natural healing process. Sutherland discovered the 'Sutural approach' which involves the manipulation of the sutures of the skull to ease pressure and increase mobility of the cranial bones. Today there are several methods being practiced which also include meningeal, and reflex. They are all fairly similar but there are some differences. In the 'meningeal approach' practitioners are expected to use their hands on the bones of the Craniosacral system in order to release any restrictions on the cranial sutures and underlying membranes. In the 'Reflex approach' stress is relieved in the Craniosacral system and other organs in the body. This is done by alerting the nervous system to turn off stress signals due to the stimulation of nerve endings in the scalp or between cranial sutures. All three systems have one thing in common: they all involve using the hands to sense the natural rhythms of the cranium.

A typical session with a practitioner will involve a person lying down fully dressed. The practitioner then gently places her hands on your head to tune into what's happening with your body. She is basically listening or feeling your body's subtle rhythms which will give her clues to what is going on inside of you. Many people feel a deep sense of relaxation during this therapy which often carries through into their daily lives in subtle ways. This work is non-invasive, and can address many types of health problems like chronic illness, physical aches and pains, allergies and emotional imbalances. Craniosacral therapy is so gentle, that it's even safe for the elderly, children and babies. While this therapy does not heal the patient itself it does encourage the body's own innate healing mechanisms to kick in and start healing. Sometimes the healing will take place in just one session, but often several sessions are needed, as the body slowly heals itself according to its natural rhythm. Those who are open and willing to become proactive in their healing process will greatly benefit from Craniosacral Therapy.
