ill with lung cancer. We watched as she went through surgery and chemotherapy. The actress was made to seem really ill in her appearance. Just a short while later, she's back at work in the DA's office and her cancer is never mentioned. There have been epidemic outbreaks, where some people die and others get well and walk away as if nothing ever happened. Currently, a young teen is undergoing surgery to wake him up from a coma he has lingered in for a year- after he was shot in the head as a result of mob violence. According to reports, we'll see him up and walking by the end of this month. Realistic? Not so much. Do some fans love it? Absolutely.
Perhaps the only other times we see much of the hospital are when it has to be quarantined for one reason or another, or blown up, so they can build a new one in just a few weeks. The heart of "General Hospital" certainly has changed, and it continues to change often. That said, it also becomes redundant. How many times do we want to see explosions and murders? Or have known mob killers seen as heroes? Women are shown to be subservient to men, and to have a hard time living without them. Over and over in this decade we've been treated to story lines abruptly ending, with no explanation give. Or worse, story lines rehashed over and over with different characters and the same results. We don't have to be hit over the head to get the point: the current writers and producers love violence, adore bombs, and hate women.
I checked out of "General Hospital" some time ago, but do keep up with the goings on because I do respect the actors and actresses, current and past, and mourn the wonderful talented people who were squandered and then let go. The cast is the beauty that is left, and I would be thrilled if the show could return to its roots and glory. By that I mean more cast interaction, family sharing time together and less "bomb them and bag the bodies" stories over and over again.
