There are a few ways to approach this not-so-sudden savings crisis of an American generation.
First take a look at our America. She's been wealthy, beautiful and strong for as long as this generation can remember. Now she's broke and suddenly there is a problem with our spending patterns. Here is something that is not so new, but might be a good indication of why Americans can't stop spending, America has been broke for a long, long time now and to encourage saving money is not the way to success of an economy, not this one anyway. Lack of spending in America by Americans (and others) is what is breaking us. It will ultimately be this economies downfall. Granted, I seem to be talking in the past tense. This economy has already fallen. It's only a matter of time now.
So to encourage, educate, or even promote saving money is a little late in the game. We've taught our children the sky is the limit. We've encouraged them to follow their dreams no matter the cost. We've sent them to college and watched them graduate. They have reached their due success and it's time to reap the rewards. What rewards?
Other countries still profit from us, but from within our country is dying. We have fallen apart and seems our chances of recovery are far from good. We are in the midst of a crisis. This generation and the ones to follow. There are no workable answers. Whose fault is it? Ours as parents? The Governments? The children? Once you have the answer to that question then ask this one. How do we fix this problem that has been created? This is where we all get stuck. This is the problem we are facing, not spending or lack thereof.
I grew up thinking the only thing you could do with money was save it. My son has been raised on a shoestring budget because times have changed and there is no money for me to save. To save would be to starve. Look up. There is good news. If you happen to be one of the fortunate ones that still has a job and a chance to hold on to it for a while then yes, that is good news indeed.
World, this is where we stand. We stand right beside the other countries who are broke, starving, and losing control of anything they ever thought they had control of in the first place. We can't predict and alter every weather forecast although this country tries as our manipulation of the weather in the past has shown mean- while our crops waste away and the droughts become more frequent. We watch as our people lose faith as they lose their homes and their dignity. All we can do is sit helplessly and wait.
