So you want to know how to figure out what kind of pet you should get? Well, before you just pick a random breed of dog or bird or whatever type of pet you're looking for or thinking about getting, search it out on the Internet before you do something you regret. For example, if you get a Boxer Bulldog and plan on leaving it outside for extended amounts of time, you might want to think about another breed of dog because Boxers get overheated easily. A good idea is adopting at your local shelter, and I don't recommend buying dogs from a pet store considering they come from puppy mills. Buying them from a pet store is basically supporting puppy mills, which is why I don't suggest that route. If you're looking for a long time companion Boxers are a good idea, especially if you have a cool, shaded area for them to stay while you're out doing your thing.
You also need to think about which animal would best suit your personality. It's not about cuteness, even though almost all animals are cute when they are little, and some when they are grown. If you don't like cats, don't get a cat. If you don't like dogs, don't get a dog. Get an animal you feel passionate about; one that you could love like a family member or a child. You could also take a pet personality quiz to find an animal suitable for you. Like I said, search it out on the Internet before you do something you regret. Here are some things you should think about when thinking about buying or adopting a pet for you or your family:
1. Will this animal(s) get along with the enviroment you provide for it?
2. Does this animal fit your personality?
3. Will you treat this animal to the best of your ability until it's last day?
4. if adopting- what is this animal's history? Was it abused, not cared for properly, or was it a stray?
5. Will you love this animal like your family or even your children?
6. Can I provide the right circumstances for this breed of animal?
Answer these six questions honestly, then review your answers and that will answer whether or not you should own this type of pet. If the majority of the answers are no (excluding #3 if you're not adopting), then you need to look for a new pet. Just remember the things I have told you about when looking for a pet that would suit you well, and you'll have it pretty good. As for those people who just do not like animals at all and your children want a pet, please do not get an animal that you're not going to care for properly and will end up chained in the back (or front) yard with no food or water and has no one to love. I strongly disagree with those who mistreat animals in any way, shape, or form. Just because they can't talk doesn't mean they don't have feelings too.
