How do you make friends? For some people this is an easy proposition, but for some this can be the hardest thing in the world to do. It has to do with personality, and it has to do with how you come across to people, and how you treat them. If you can learn how to interact with people, you can learn how to make friends. If you treat people poorly, you won't have nearly as many friends as you would like. If you treat people well, you will find that you generally have a lot of friends, and people will like you a lot. Here are a few tips to help you make some friends.
When you are trying to be someone's friend, make sure that you have something to offer. Why are you trying to be friends with this person? Is it because you truly want to hang out with this person, or are you just desperate for anyone to hang out with? While I will agree that most friendships start out as a random meeting, you should have some reason for hanging out. Don't just randomly associate with people because you seek the approval of anyone who will talk to you. This will only backfire on you.
Do you have something in common with this person? I don't know about you, but I don't have many friends that I started hanging out with due to having opposite interests. Your friends don't have to have everything in common with you, but there is usually one common thing that allows you to bond with this other person. Whether it be a common hatred of a teacher, an interest in golf, or just because your in a math group, there should be something that you have in common.
Are you a good person, who will treat people with respect? At the very least, you shouldn't be demanding of people, and you shouldn't be looking to use them for something. If you are going to a concert, it could make a good impression on someone if you bought the beer, or drove to the event. Chipping in to help the other person out demonstrates that you will be able to be of value as a friend, and hopefully the other person will return the favor. Doing things for others make you a valued person, and will help you to make friends.
When trying to make makes with people, make sure that you are putting yourself into appropriate situations. Don't call people at 9am on a Sunday asking if they want to go to the car show in an hour. This makes you look desperate, and who wants to be called at 9am on a Sunday? Chances are that you are still recovering from the night before, and people don't like to be called on a Sunday, as it is a day to be lazy. If you have an event you would like to invite someone you don't know too, you should plan ahead. Accommodating the needs of others is a good way to make friends.
If you can be respectful, accomdating, and helpful to others, you will make a lot of friends. If you are selfish, smug, or just a leech, you will not have friends. Being a friend is being there for others, and having someone to share good times with. If you can do that, you can make a lot of friends, if not you will have a lonely life.
