The relevance of Valentine's Day

Honestly, Valentine's Day! What's so special about it? Yeah it's great, if you have a significant other or someone who actually loves you. Not everyone has a boy friend or a husband. Yes people may give you a gift and candy and it's quite wonderful and sweet. It's not the same as a guy giving it to you. Even then all that is just a bunch of hype. The media, telling you to go all out, spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on tangible items that are going to die in a vase in a few days or candy that's going to add a good 5 to 10 pounds to your weight. Heck even the news gets involved letting us know you have this many days or how many hours we have to rush to the store before nothing is left. What ever happened to a simple waking up to someone making you breakfast.

A single rose, a walk out on the beach an evening out in the park. People don't realize that the important thing is that you are with someone you love and who loves you for who you are. The importance is not how much you spend on that day. Or how big is the rock he got for you. Not even that he went to JARED'S. It's that they are there with you.

The simplest things are the most important. To call in from work just to spend the day with you, I guess most of us have not learned with all the tragedies and going on in our world that it's the time you spend together that makes it so special. Most people have their loved ones at war and can not celebrate Valentines Day. It's brought heart ache and tears to their eyes. What about them?

Yes, Valentine's is special and it is a great holiday. People just don't realize that not everyone has a special someone in their lives. Not everyone has someone to buy them things. Or pamper them on this day. In my opinion this day should not eve be a holiday. It is based on a massacre that took place long ago. Many don't even know about it. All they really think about is cupid and hearts. The media has commercialized it since the beginning. How can we profit from this tragedy? Just remember if you have someone good for you. Enjoy it.

Remember it's not how much you spend on each other, but how much you spend with each other. For those of you who don't have a beloved just remember you are not alone! Get yourself out of bed and go spend it with your parents, your siblings, your kids. Take them out to a movie or go out to dinner, to a park. I'm sure they will appreciate it.
