In today's world of technological advances in all areas of human life and existence, video games have become a common leisure time activity, for young children as well as for teenagers and some adults. They come in all types and missions: war-like, fighting, racing, action, adventure, time-wasters and so on. However, what impact do these have on our everyday lives, and mainly on lives of the children?!
Well, you can say that games activate the brain, making them think and try to resolve the complicated webs of missions in the game, but that theory is only true in certain types of games like brain-teasers, quite popular among adults and mature teenagers, but not so appealing to young minds. What these young restless kids like the most is a sense of rush and adrenaline that they get from mainly shooting, fighting and racing games, with a bit of an outer-space, alien twist to them.
And as exciting as they seem, these games only really have one idea behind them, be a hero and kill the aliens or the gangsters. Some of the newer games though have an adverse mission, being the bad guy, as it is even more appealing to young kids who have to obey the parents but can escape to a world of violence and crime, being the king of it all in the games. This can have an unwanted effect on children, making them rude and not obeying their parents, as they are never really out of the game once they become addicted to it. Some adventure and quest games can be better as they develop a child's logical thinking by presenting him/her with a problem to resolve.
However, out of these games, one called War Craft can lead to addiction as well. It is known that this game is more popular among teenagers and young adults as it is harder for kids to relate to and requires some patience and logical thinking. The disadvantage of it is while occupying a mind with logical thinking, the game draws the player into imaginary world of witches and wizards and doesn't let go This can cause teenagers to stay in the game for ages, think about it all the time, bring it up in conversation, and while it's something to talk about, the game still becomes their life, preventing them from enjoying some other great outdoor and indoor activities. Some can argue that this directly causes overweight in teenagers and eye sight problems. So the games listed above, and with similar characteristics are inappropriate for children.
