What is a recession? Is it really that bad? Why not use it to your advantage? When the economy slows down there are ways you can prosper. It can be a great excuse. Be creative, optimistic and learn valuable skills. Hard times build strength of character. Stick your head in the sand and refuse to believe. There's no recession-we're doing fine!

Having a lack of money can benefit your health. Who can afford to buy gas for their car? Your cholesterol will drop when you can't afford meat. It's a popular time to quit smoking. Your immune system will strengthen when you can't afford drugs. It's a great time to drink more water. Taking the dog for a walk is cheap entertainment. Light some candles and have more sex!

Are you a geek with money? Are you a nerd that works hard? In a recession you'll actually be cool. When the economy tanks you can show off your skills. Teach the world the art of coupons. Keep you vintage clothing from that second hand shop. You might actually blend with the crowd. Go from zero to hero stamping personal cards. You'll look good when you buy the cheap beer!

The recession is a great time to learn new things. Are there skills you could learn to save money? Could you mend your own clothes or plant a vegetable garden? Why not cut your husband's hair? Dining out is expensive. Why not learn to be how to cook? With no job you'll have the time. Upgrade your schooling and find your acoustic guitar. Try out for American Idol!

Entertainment costs money you can no longer afford. Use the recession as an excuse to stay in. You're not lazy by spending the day watching soaps or football. You're just saving your family money. Take up reading and find a good library book. Play board games with family and friends. Take you kids to the park and play catch with a ball. There really was life before Facebook!

Shopping is a great recession activity. You can always compare more prices. I found it on sale! I had a coupon! I couldn't resist the amazing deal! Even houses are cheap with the rate of foreclosures. The mortgage rates are low. Why not go into debt? Could your finances get worse? GM is tanking-let's go buy a car!

Whether you learn new skills or decide to be lazy, the recession is not all bad. It can foster good health and keep your family connected. It can make a geek look cool. There's no reason to sit around all day and complain. The recession can't last forever. Make the most of your time and go shopping for deals. Is that lottery ticket half-price?
