Album review: Hip Hop is dead,by nas
Do you think hip hop is dead?Has the creativity of an 80's born culture came to an end?If it has then nasir jones aka NAS
has not only stated his point throughout the album but has also ressurected it at the same time.He explains about carrying on tradition and remembering the mc's from the past in the song" where are they now".Nas has also put aside the beef between him and jay z in the song" black republican "and made history in hip hop's long tradition of holding grudges. With production from producers like Will I Am from black eyed peas and Dr Dre the albums feeling is very organic. Although rumors of Dj premier doing the production of the whole album wasn't true the antisipation of another classic from nas was still awaited.
This is a classic album from nas in my opinion. The album is more like a well written essay with a foundation of the topic,a climax, and conclusion.I agree with nas as well. The sharp edge that hip hop once had has been dulled by the lack of passion for the culture in wich we created, and has been replaced by the ambition of one's quest too get rich.A way out of the hood. Now their are rappers everywhere because they see the flaunted effects of being a rapper."Big car,big house, chicks with big tits, big butts, and rhymes filled with big clips, big guns, big funds, never killed anyone, and every other bar you spit you shot someone."
I was at a debate at howard university the other day,and we were talking about hip hop.We were also talking about the effect its having over the youth.Hip hop has the most effect over the youth over religion politics or whatever else you can think of.
When people listen too these lyrics they get high or drink.Rappers even make songs that your supposed to smoke too.
So is what NAS represents and the era he came from dead,or is this the death and birth of a new era,a new tradition?
Jesus went through the same thing with the jews.Hip hop will never die but stop being eccepted by the founding fathers because of what it has become.
A new begining, but one foundation. We can't forget that. And don't forget to pick up the album so that you can be inlightened by it.
Till next time
PEACE

Miss Jones is making a not-so-subtle shift away from jazz pop into darker territory.
This album is divided into two halves.
At first listen, Norah Jones' latest album, Not Too Late sounds as mellow and slow as her first two. However, a second take
