Poetry: Just so you know

by Jo Woodnutt

Created on: May 11, 2009

I watched you walk away.

Now, I look down at my hands

And I wonder how these,

These tiny palms,

Could have done so much damage.

How, like Judas, I betrayed you...

But I didn't even cross them with silver.

I never meant to hurt you, or

To see you cry. I never meant to

Lash out, scratch you, bruise you.

It all comes back in flashes:

Red- my anger, your dress, your blood.

White- my nails, your face, broken glass.

The slamming of a door.

And then, I watched you walk away,

I understand.

And I'm so sorry.

Just so you know.
