When I ask this question to myself, the best response I can think of is that the more people who actually do take a stand, the higher the chances of the problem being solved. Even though I live in the USA, we are more and more becoming a global economy. We need to look out for more than just ourselves. Luckily, the internet is a vast resource of information where more knowledge can get through to a higher number of people than ever before. Just being aware of this issue is a good start for the common good of all. I don't care what culture someone lives in or what the collective beliefs are, the fact of the matter is this is child exploitation in one of it's most extreme forms all in the name of profits. Really think about that for a moment or two. Some groups of people have something to gain from this, and by keeping labor as cheap as possible, they reap the most profits. Is this really something that we should all just shrug our shoulders to just because it isn't happening in our own back yards? Can we really think of ourselves as much more advanced than what we were millenia ago when things like this are still going on? It's time we all woke up and stopped hiding our heads in the sand. Some of you may be thinking, "What can I do? I am only one person and I live thousands of miles from where this is happening". Just by doing research and writing an article like this can be beneficial. Who knows the impact one's knowledge can have on different people. And like I mentioned earlier, thank God for the internet. We can put our ideas out there that can literally reach thousands upon thousands in just a few moments.
Also, think about this for a moment....is one really "well off" when profits are made at the expense of others, especially children? These conditions sprung from ignorance to the bigger picture. It is important to really understand the big profit motivators for these conditions to happen in the first place. But what if there was a grander vision shared by more and more people? What if more and more of us are sick and tired of the way things are being run around the world, especially with regards to children? I tell you this, the more people that hold these higher visions in place, the quicker it can manifest in our own realities. Instead of just getting upset or agitated about this and then doing nothing about it, ask yourself what you can personally do to help find a solution to this dilemma as well as any other dilemmas you encounter in your journey. Like I said earlier, it can be something as simple as just writing an article displaying your opinion on the matter or any number of other things. The key point to remember is that this is not an "all or nothing" situation meaning that every little thing one can do to help solve the problem is beneficial, no matter how small one percieves the effort to be. This leads me to conclude with the thought that whatever is most beneficial for our society as a whole naturally becomes the most beneficial for an individual as well. We are all interdependent with each other, as well as with mother earth itself and all her other inhabitants. If we could all see this bigger picture rather than solely "what's in it for me", the world would be a much more peaceful place for everyone to live.
