The outcome of an alternative education program should be, that a student is given all the assistance they need to reach the highest possible level of their learning abilities.

The term alternative education is defined as; a means of delivering education outside of a traditional educational facility. These programs originated in the late 60's- early 70's, in lieu of providing alternative education initiatives. It was thought that new and varied approaches to educating were needed for students who experience learning difficulties. These programs were also initiated in lieu of high school drop-outs, truancy, academic failure, juvenile delinquency and a host of other factors.

Alternative education must give a child all the possibilities for success as any other educational facility does. The outcome from any form of education must be that the child was given every possible opportunity to succeed. Every child has a maximum achievement ratio; they may be a little lower or higher than average, but a child must be given ample opportunity to learn to the best of their ability.

Often a child is moved from a regular education facility in order to give them a more in-depth education which some schools lack. Other times a child may need more one-on-one tuition, alternative education is often the best option in lieu of this.

Many children struggle, perhaps they have educational disabilities such as; comprehension problems, dyslexia and so forth. They often get lost along the wayside due to class sizes; they fail to get the individual assistance they need. Statistics show that a myriad of students leave school without adequate spelling, reading and writing abilities, this concerns numerous parents.

Alternative education ensures that a child is not left to slide down the ladder of learning. Although many children may not gain the success that is expected, they at least have the opportunity to try. There are numerous parameters involved when educating children, one cannot expect all to be catered for, and yet alternative education certainly focuses on righting as many learning difficulties as humanly possible.

Many children slide behind the eight-ball in reference to keeping up with their peers, this has them often feeling inadequate, insecure, dumb, useless and anxious. Alternative education can help them raise their level of knowledge and capabilities, to feel less ostracized or lost within the education system.
