Faithful Star Trek fans of the original series sighed a huge gasp of relief when it was revealed that Kevin Pollack (the comedian and master Shatner impersonator) will be dubbing all of James T. Kirk's dialogue in the new Star Trek imagining film out this week.
Likening the same decision made for (1981) The Lone Ranger's Klinton Spillsbury dubbed by James Keach and (1970) Hercules in New York's Arnold (Strong) Schwartzenegger dubbed by Ed Koch. Even likened to Mercedes McCambridge's dulcet tones used for Linda Blair in the Exorcist. Chris Pine was not at all surprised by the move to overdub his dialogue. It was silly anyway. It got in the way of my posing and looking hot for the Teen Beat crowd that make up my ticket buying demographic, them and 40+y/o men who want to either be me or be with me. Other Imaginers in the film are Zach Quinto impersonating Spock. Karl Urban impersonating Dr. McCoy. And Simon Pegg (now divorced from The Dead's Shaun character) as Scotty. Are these impersonations better than Steve Martin's take as Peter Sellars? They are just as good as Martin's Clouseau.. but much better than Alan Arkin's Clouseau.
William Shatner will actually be snubbing the new film! Oh! And your grandmother has left word that if you do go this weekend, be sure to turn the light off in the basement!

I couldn't hold back my curiosity.
So I went online... found some Eastern European bootleg online (full film, good quality)... and watched all of it to appease my insomnia.
My thoughts...
I never liked ensemble TV shows like the Dick Van Dyke show, Mary Tyler Moore show, Taxi or even Happy Days or Laverne & Shirley had their cast of characters do things together outside their work or ordinary lives. I could understand Rob Petrie having booze parties where the work gang got together and entertained Jerry amd Millie and neighbors, but Lenny and Squiggy, Laverne's father or Carmine entertaining at the Shotz brewery talent show? The Taxi gang hanging out at a museum together. The Saved By The Bell cast all taking a summer job together at some resort. Saying all that, I am remiss to not know any Star Trek history where young Chekov went to the
