Poetry: Disappointment

ANOTHER LESSON LEARNT

Am I the problem or are you?

I have no answers just endless questions.

You have changed,

You are no longer notable amongst the rest,

You are one of them now,

I have lost you into the crowds; the hoards that enter my life and leave without a trace,

Never to return,

Never to be heard from...

You are not one but many,

Another disappointment,

Another lesson learnt,

I thought I had learnt not to care,

Learnt not to hurt,

I thought I had grown, matured...

Yet the cynicism of age is beyond my reach,

Youthful idealism still resides; refusing to depart,

Drum, drum it,

Beat it mercilessly,

Yet it still remains,

A glimmer,

A small fire burning,

Hope.

Maybe one day I shall not be disappointed,

Maybe one day I will be wrong about you,

I start again.

Pack my battered suitcase,

My ragged cloths,

My tear stained garments,

I will learn.

New ways to ease the pain,

To soothe the hurt,

To pretend that it doesn't matter,

I never cared.

Yet it doesn't get easier,

The years roll on,

And the bitterness remains as biting.
