Poetry: Drugs

by Elena Stephenson

Created on: May 09, 2009

Sweet nectar,

Running thick as honey in my veins,

Sticky and sweet.

Itching desire,

Forcing myself to go and search,

Needing and itching.

Disgusted sell-out,

Giving my body to a man I don't know,

Hurt and disgusted.

Plastic needle,

Grasping desperate onto that brand new hit,

Benign and plastic.

Delicious sting,

Pushing the needle into the vein,

Quick and delicious.

Fading breath,

The honey in my veins moving fast,

Choking and fading.

Burning fire,

Scorching flames make my body shudder,

Hot and burning.

Cold ice,

Lying in soaking sweat over my skin,

Shivering and cold.

Sterile walls,

The sting of antiseptic in my nostrils,

Blue and sterile.

Another hit,

I ask over and over for the taste,

Another and another.

Blank faces,

Pacing nurses ignore the pleas of my voice,

Angry and blank.

Months pass,

Fading inside the craving that urges me,

Days and months.

No more,

Sitting here in a circle of people,

Ask and I say no.
