Truth exists within the one telling the truth. Just because a person's account of an event is told differently does not constitute a lie. It is merely a different view. There are lies in the manner of one that purposely misleads us, but for those that simply describe something differently, truth exists.
Studies have shown that several people witnessing an event can all have different accounts of it and none be a lie. People view things in a different manner and when communicating them, they are often communicating their own views and opinions of the account. That is not a lie. That is their truth. Truth exists in our views and opinions.
A perfect example of truth existing with in our views is the description of a person. If you are shorter, you may describe someone as being tall. If you are taller than someone, you may describe them as short. If a person has a fear of strange men, they might describe a man as being scary while someone without that fear may describe a strange man as looking average. These differences make our truths exist. None of them are lies, but they may not be the truth of someone else.
Truth exists in the gathering of information. While all these truths we have talked about are floating around, it would take the combining of all to find our truth of an event. When interviewing a group of people that witnessed one occurrence, it is important to remember they may not have all seen the same thing. One individual's focal point may have been colors. Another focal point may have been people. Truth exists within focal points as well. It is what they are focused on that makes their truth. If they don't see it, they won't tell it in the same manner as someone who saw it that way.
Truth can also be influenced by culture and upbringing. While one person thinks something is right , another may feel just as passionately that it is wrong. Is this the truth? It is to the one that feels it. It is the truth about who they are and what they believe in. Would someone else accuse you of lying if you didn't agree with their account? Yes, probably so. However, that does not mean it is so. It means that your perception of truth was different at that point and time.
Truth does exist, but it exists within the person. Truth exists in the voices of those that speak honestly about who they are. Sometimes it is our truth and sometimes it's not, but truth exists nonetheless.
