Best movies ever

by Jonquil Johnson

Created on: May 09, 2009

Being able to quote almost an entire movie is definitely a prerequisite for an all time classic. An all time classic is a movie that transcends time and is just as meaningful and powerful every time it is watched. A classic does not mean old; it means that the quality of the content will always remain relevant. Being a movie buff, there are not too many movies that I have not seen. But, these movies for a number of reasons are the best movies ever.

1) The Silence of the Lambs

This movie tops the list because of the main character Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Lecter draws in his victims as well as the audience with his slow, thick accent and blunt personality. He speaks exactly what he feels and makes sure that he ultimately gets the last laugh as he does the unthinkable and escapes despite the prison guards overkill restraints. He doesn't take the spotlight alone though. Ted Levine's character, Buffalo Bill, uses his passion for sewing and human skin to take the viewer's through an unforgettable journey with the FBI to try and capture him. This movie exposes the mind of a psychopath and makes it an instant classic.

2) Carrie

Carrie White is a very shy teenager who wanted so badly to fit in with her peers. On top of being an outcast in her school, she has to deal with a crazy, superchristian of a mother who rams the prophecy of Christ down her throat daily and uncontrollable telekinesis. The normal bodily function of menstruation starts a downward spiral into an suspense filled death frenzy ending at of all places, the prom. Stephen King's tale of an anything but normal teenager being pushed too far was executed flawlessly and the cemetery scene at the end makes this movie a definite classic.

3) Imitation of Life

This story of an aspiring actress and her maid brings tears to my eyes every single time I watch. Although Annie Johnson was not the main character in the story, her pain is easily felt throughout the movie. She is the African American mother of a beautiful mixed race daughter who felt she could go further in life by passing as a white woman. Sarah Jane brought so much grief and pain to herself as well as her mother by trying to become what she thought was better than being herself. This heart-wrenching story definitely deserves a spot on any best movie list.

4) The Sixth Sense

A psychologist is shot in his home by a former client who can no longer deal with his vivid hallucinations. A year later, he starts to counsel a child who seems to exhibit the
